• Maitland Gaol

  A look at life on the inside... A key anchor attraction of the Hunter, Maitland Gaol has a vibrant history spanning more than 150 years. After housing some of Australia's most hardened and notorious criminals, Maitland Gaol closed as a Correctional Institution in 1998. The cell doors have now been swung open, with visitors invited to 'serve time' learning about the facility, past prisoners and daring escapes. Open 7 days, Maitland Gaol offers visitors the opportunity to indulge in a world class self-guided audio tour. Additionally, themed-guided tours and torchlight tours by night are regularly available and are a great way to interpret this unique attraction. Only the brave can battle a group sleepover night.   MRAG is situated in the Hunter Region 30 minutes west of Newcastle. It sits just east of the tourist center of the Hunter Valley Vineyards. Maitland is neighbored by Newcastle Region Art Gallery and Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery both only 40 minutes driving from Maitland with which MRAG has a professional, constant and corporative working relationship.

• Tocal Field Days

  Tocal Field Days is the Hunter’s premier agricultural event with a strong focus on education. Tocal combines a genuine rural experience with livestock demonstrations, regional food & wine, farm and garden machinery, plants, craft and fashion as well as country entertainment. The 2012 event will also highlight 'Honey', the 'World Championship Heavy Horse Shoeing Competition' and 'Healthy Soils' as our special features
