This tour is ideal for Maitland residents & visitors to hear about historically significant floods, while viewing a collection of over 80 photos, many from the 1955 flood. This flood was the highest and most destructive on record, claiming 11 lives in Maitland. The tour will be led by knowledgeable local guide, Peter Bogan, who will talk about the tragic events that took place around the Station, including a rescue attempt by a naval helicopter that went horribly wrong.  The entire area around Maitland Station was awash with brown, muddy waves resembling the ocean, the station itself engulfed in several meters of violent, fast-flowing floodwater.

The tour shows the vulnerability of the City Centre to back water flooding from creeks & flood ways & highlights the need for every resident & business to understand the behaviour of flooding in Maitland & to know what to do when major flooding is predicted.

Tour participants will receive a complimentary flood safety information kit. Morning or afternoon tea is included. Bookings are essential.
